Being photogenic is something which will need to be worked on and practised to make sure every photo looks great. Of course, for some people this will come more easily than it will for others, but even the most seemingly photogenic people can be caught off guard. Just think about all those paparazzi snaps you see of celebrities; these are the same people who look glamorous and perfect on the red carpet, but then look just like everyone else when they are coming out to the gym or the supermarket. No one can look flawless and be pulling the ideal facial expression all the time. Modelling jobs are always in high demand. There is plenty of advertising which will need a model, and there are also plenty of models trying to win the work. In order to make sure youre the most suitable candidate, youll need to make sure you look the best you can, and be prepared for any eventuality.
To make sure youre ready for any modelling jobs, preparation is the key.
Is anything required of you?
Before you head to any modelling jobs, speak to your agency to find out if there is anything in particular you should be wearing, or if youre supposed to be turning up to the shoot without make up on. This is quite normal - it saves time if there is a makeup artist who will be applying your make up, and youll often need heavier makeup than you would usually where so you dont appear washed out under studio lighting.
Practise!
If youre not sure what your smile on demand looks like, practise in a mirror. Get a friend to take a few snaps of you and direct you a little to get used to the sensation. If you want some more realistic practise, you could even arrange to do some TFP modelling, where you can practise with a photographer in a studio and see how you cope. There more you practise the more prepared youll feel and it should help to relax you.
Get a good nights sleep
If its one of your first modelling jobs this can be easier said than done. Even the most confident of people might feel a bit nervous before hand. Its something you wont really have done before, and theres nothing really quite like it. Youll need to follow direction well, be the centre of attention, but also look relaxed and confident. If you get plenty of sleep your skin will look brighter, your eyes less tired, and youll generally feel better in yourself.
If youre feeling nervous or like youre not sure what youre doing, just remember you got the job for a reason.
Leave in plenty of time
If youre rushed, youll feel stressed, youll arrive agitated, and youll struggle to shake that feeling. Unless youre a great actor it is likely to come across in your photos, and there wont be any time to sit down and cool off either, because modelling jobs tend to be run to very tight schedules. Youll be keeping a whole team waiting if youre late, so make sure you arent.
Find out exactly where you need to go and when youre expected to be there. Allow plenty of time, and even more if you have to travel a long way or during rush hour.
